How to change MTU of Wireguard Client

How do you change the MTU of the wireguard client being used on the router? As it currently stands, the MTU used by my router when Wireguard is activated is 1420 (as determined through ifconfig wgc1) , which, with having Surfshark as my VPN client, doesn't work and nothing will load on any of my devices.

I have an old OpenWRT router to test, and it also failed to work unless I changed the MTU to 1350, but the current interface on my ASUS router doesn't allow for the MTU to be changed on Wireguard clients. How can this be changed if possible?
