New Around Here
Hello all , reviewing for hours , I'm looking for a updated settings to optimise my vpn conection
I have in :
A) 200 mb fiber with a Asus Rt-Ac66u - Marlin 380.70 - standard OpenVPn server
B) 500 mb cable with Asus Rt-Ac66u - Marlin 380.70 - standard OpenVpn client

My best speed in between is 5 mb

I kindly appreciate help
Thanks in advance

That router has a very old CPU. The best you will ever reach is around 20 Mbps, provided you stick to AES-128-CBC and use a SHA1 HMAC.

last one, for 2020 , what is the best router for vpn server and max speed?
thanks in advance

RT-AC86U or RT-AX88U both have AES-NI acceleration that boosts VPN performance up to 200Mbps depending on the server you're connected to.

More importantly, they both support RMerlin firmware too. :)

a question , having the setup mentioned at the beginning
why my connection via tunnelblick client to the asus server shows speed of 15mb
and via de asus router client - wifi is stuck at 5mb ?
does the asus client router needs extra config im missing?

Just get 2 x ac86u. 250 dollars, 250mbs VPN on both.

You have internet for 2020 yet routers for 2000.

Don't waste time on trying to polish a turd.

May I ask what settings you're using for the AX88u as a server? Created the VPN and connecting successfully, but with VPN off, on LTE at work, I get about 60mbps, but once I connect, it drops to about 20mpbs. I have Google Fiber at home, so I know I have the upload bandwidth.

Thanks!

I don't use any settings past defaults. The speeds depend on both ends of the connections.

What speeds does Google Fibre give you (up/down)?

Daily tests give me about 930/930 on GF across several testing sites.

Could I maybe get a screenshot of your settings just to confirm I match? I think my only change may have been to disable compression since I saw something about compression being vulnerable to attack?
