HowTo open case of my book live

New Around Here
Hello,

In the article here you mentioned you've opened the case of the Western Digital My Book Live and shows pictures of inside.

I'd like to open my new 3TB My Book Live as well!
Can you give me a workflow how to do it? I can't figure it out cause there are now screws!

I'd like to replace the hard drive inside with a better one (server-hdd for 24/7)

thanx,
Soko

There is really no value in doing that. It will draw more power, run hotter and not provide higher performance. Also, the product will not be able to automatically format the drive.

But if you are determined to try, you need to pry the cover free of the four latches (two on each side) at the back. Then slide the cover forward and off.

Hello,

Thanks for the info & advice...
I'm aware of the risks you mentioned. I'm not looking for performance. I want to use a drive with high MTBF to feel safe cocerning my data for a couple of years.

I will take enough tests to be sure the drive won't get too hot. If it does I put the original drive back in => my concern is safety of my data!
If I'm not able to format the new drive it's OK too... I just wonna give it a try :D

As my native language is not english I don't get out all possible info of your description. Can you please describe the workflow a little more details or provide fotos (i.e. of the latches) if you have any?
But more important: It sounds to me as if I have to damage the case to open it (break something)! Did I get this wrong or is there no way to open the case without damaging?

Thanx again for your support!
Soko

Sorry, but I don't have the time to provide a more detailed description. You might break a tab opening it, but it will still close just fine.
