IPTV LAN port on AiMesh node

Terepin

Occasional Visitor
I currently have TUF-AX6000, but due to signal getting significantly degraded through steel-concrete wall I would like to buy a XD4 Plus unit to create a mesh network. In my current setup the STB is connected to LAN4 port which is set as an IPTV with VLAN. Now my question is: can I connect it to node's LAN port and set that as an IPTV port with VLAN?

HI, why not?, i have mesh and iptv work in the mesh node with out problem

I'm happy to be proved wrong if that's the case. But I don't see how that could work in the way the OP asked.

What VLAN ID does your STB use? How have you setup the VLAN ID for the STB on the node?

You don't even have IPTV VLAN assigned to LAN port. What you have is Internet service with VLAN 24 requirement. I also don't think what @Terepin is asking for will work on a node LAN port with routers without user configurable VLAN option for LAN ports. May eventually be possible on newer models running 3006 firmware and VLAN support in case Asus provided such functionality for STB IPTV.

Maybe I used incorrect term, but this is how it looks on AX6000:

Can I use the same settings on node while keeping IPTV functionality intact?

Before you even get to IPTV - the XD4 you are looking at is a dual-band mesh set and if the nodes are not wired it will be like adding repeaters to your network with about 50% throughput penalty to connected clients due to retransmissions. Make sure you want that. In addition this IPTV VLAN is highly unlikely to be forwarded to a node LAN port. In 3004 firmware the nodes are close to simple access point or repeater with LAN ports as unmanaged switch.

You have your STB connected somehow now and it is working. This is your Plan B if it doesn't work with AiMesh.

But that would require to use second cable between two rooms, which I'm not willing to do because of difficult it would be.

Since you have Ethernet wires - what about another TUF-AX6000 and OpenWrt instead of Asuswrt with AiMesh?

May be able to get what you need. Some more networking skills perhaps required and getting familiar with OpenWrt.

Another idea to try, perhaps easier - connect this node to the main router's LAN 4 and see what happens on node's LAN ports. If no go - add a switch passing VLANs before the node and connect the STB and the node to the switch. Has to work in theory.

I was thinking about the first scenario, but wouldn't that affect wi-fi network?

No. It may only affect the STB operation depending on what the node's switch is doing.

I can't find any information about what this switch does with VLAN tags. It's available, test it. You can do this before purchasing another router for AiMesh node. Just connect the switch between you router and the STB and see what happens.

So it works. Kinda. VLAN tag was stripped, so STB got a different IP address, but it's still multicast. Basically, it behaves as if LAN4 was set as a STB port without VLAN. But this means that everything connected to the switch will be running on a STB port, so I cannot imagine how a mesh node could pair with AX6000.

Sorry, never used any IPTV settings on any Asus router. Someone else may help you further.
