New Around Here
Hi;

I have an IPv4 router and I want to use it in an IPv6, will it work properly??
if yes, then will this affect the router's performance??

kindly advice me

regards

Depends on what you are expecting it to do. It obviously won't respond to any IPv6 traffic.

Do you want to use IPv6 to get out to the internet? As thiggins asked....what do you want to use it for?

The only thing I can tell you at the moment that might be of use to you is to use a tunnel broker like Hurricane Electric.

Thanks guys for your reply.

bendsley, I'm having a small IPv6 network for experimental purposes and I want test my old IPv4 router to see how it performs.

I have read within some routers manufacturers websites (like Sitecom) that their routers will support IPv6 with firmware update, which makes me wonder, does IPv6 support a require some hardware to be available within the router or it is a software thing which can be enabled/activated with proper firmware

Kindly advice

In this case my router can support IPv6 with firmware update with IPv6 facility, or using custom firmware (DD-WRT) with IPv6 support

Thanks bendsley
