Low download speeds AC66U

I think generally Asus routers are just terrible with performance or what ?

My tilgin router that my FIOS isp provides me with is much better when it comes to speed anyhow, maybe not so much customizing but atleast the darn thing works 110%

I am supposed to have a 300/300 FIOS connection

and my FIOS always runs on the good side of 300/300+ up and down , but everytime i hook up my AC66U because there has been a new firmware released and give it another shot, it gives me crap speeds.

Anyone got a clue ?

I wouldn't call that low download speed for general usage, but it is low relative to your speed tier. Is NAT hardware acceleration enabled? Are you connected to WiFi or Ethernet?

Is your FIOS router bridged?

I am connected with ethernet cable to my router, don't know if NAT HW accel is enabled or not , have not seen a option about that, where is it located ?

Not bridged , my AC66U runs the internet as a router - Wireless router mode (Default) , this is what its set at

Your AC66U is connected via Ethernet to your FIOS router correct? If that's the case your FIOS router may have to be bridged.
