myQ Garage Opener "Offline" on ZenWiFi ET9 Guest Network

New Around Here
I’m having a specific issue with my myQ Garage Door Opener and my Asus Zenwifi Et9 AiMesh system. I have a two-node setup with an Ethernet backhaul between them.

My garage opener is physically much closer to Node 2 (signal strength is a strong -40dBm). However, when it connects to Node 2's guest network, it shows as "Offline" in the myQ app and cannot reach the internet.

Strangely, if it connects to Node 1 (the main router), it works perfectly fine, even though the signal is much weaker (-70dBm).

The Setup:

  • Hardware: 2x ASUS ZenWiFi ET9
  • Backhaul: Ethernet cable connecting Node 1 (Main) and Node 2.
  • Network: Dedicated 2.4 GHz Guest Network for IoT devices.
  • Authentication mode : WPA/WPA2
  • Status: Node 2 shows "Great" connection to Node 1 in the app.

What I've tried:

  • Rebooting both nodes.
  • Verifying that the myQ is reachable from the app (online) when forced to Node 1.
  • Use many other IoT devices (google home, tplink bulb and switches) connected to node2 and the same 2.4ghz guest network. They work fine.
It seems like Node 2 is broadcasting the Guest SSID but isn't actually routing the traffic to the internet over the ethernet backhaul only for 1 device. Has anyone encountered this "Guest Network Black Hole" on secondary ZenWiFi nodes? Is there a specific sync setting I'm missing?

I have a MyQ opener. It is on a guest WIFI and I have seen the device connect to either the node or router. Use just WPA2-Personal, 20 MHz only on the 2.4 GHz, Do not enable Ethernet Backhaul in the AiMesh settings but Auto (I have better success with Auto). Also use a simple guest network SSID of no more than 8 alpha/numeric characters but no special characters or spaces. Same with the WIFI password for the guest network.

Might be worth trying to enable access intranet ? It might be isolating access that the device needs to phone home to the App? Just a guess.

One of these depending on your GN implementation. Enable access to your main network. Of course it will do it for all devices, but maybe your other ones don’t need access?

No. The MyQ app connects through a remote server. The problem is a WIFI issue.

MyQ garage opener app has not worked properly for the past few years. I worked with the company, and they admitted that their updates had failed to work with "older" openers (ours has a 2015 mfg date).
I was forced to buy their MyQ Hub which worked well for a year, then MyQ fw updates killed the hub and has never been able to work since their update.
The opener operates well for the exception of MyQ Hub/app, so I cannot justify the expense of a new opener. Contemplated installing Meross Device but I have not yet found time to learn more about their newest garage door opener connect.

FWIW, I just set up some ET9s (4) for a friend who has 2 MyQ door openers. I do not know which ones.

They are probably about 20 and 25 feet from the preferred node. One seemed to connect, the other connects and then disconnects. I even put one ET9 in a room over the garage at probably 10 feet just to test. They seem, like most devices, to want to connect to the more distant main node. I get a signal strength warning when I force them to a node. When I left they both seemed to work. They are on the main network for now with default settings.

Is there a reboot or some type of reset to be done on these or is it just bad bits?
