I'm new to SMB and the Forums, but have some experience with computers and network. Enough experience to know when its time to ask questions...

First a little background: I have a RT-AC56R operating as my wireless (and wired) router to my cable modem (charter) and am investigating setting up a server locally that will be accessible from the outside world. I haven't done anything yet, just reading, learning. And one thing I'm told is that I need to turn on something called NAT Loopback to make the thing I am doing work.

So I have two questions: 1) What the heck is NAT Loopback? 2) Does the RT-AC56R support it? and 3) If so, how to I enable it. Hmmmm... ok... that's three questions. :)

Thanks for the help,

The NAT loopback isn't used for making something accessible to the outside world. It's used when you want, from the INSIDE, access that forwarded port, by using the WAN IP. You are going outside, then back inside, hence the name "loopback".

Yes, Asuswrt does support NAT loopback. It's inherent to its design, there's nothing requiring to be enabled for it.

Most likely, all you need is to enable the port forward / virtual server, and forward your port there.
