Looking to replace my stock running NetGear WNDR 3700.
Need to decide between N16 and N66U unless you think there is something else that fits the bill better.

- Hardware reliability and firmware stability is the first priority.
- Would like to use Open VPN with DNSCrypt to secure all the communication at the router.
- Would like to prioritize my VOIP service with QOS.
- Would like to maintain an FTP site and love to have secure access from outside.
- Since I only have 15Mbit/2Mbit connectivity, I don't think performance is too big of a challenge.
- Guest wireless LAN would be a plus.

I have tried NETGEAR WNDR3700's 5GHz and concluded it to be a joke since the range was non-existent.

I will keep the NetGear as backup and not looking to upgrade the firmware.

Open to use either tomato or DD-WRT. Don't know much about Merlin at all but open to suggestions.
Would probably go with tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-110-AIO or dd-wrt.v24-14896_NEWD-2_K2.6_big

Any insight/recommendation would be appreciated.
