Interesting... After taking a look at the source, it looks like the router will already try to store the minidlna database on an external disk, but only if you change the media directory from the default of /tmp/mnt.

I'm not sure I like that logic... Why not ALWAYS store it there?
 
Maybe because the router still doesn't know where to put the minidlna database in the external disk? It's just a guess.. But, yeah! Why not always store it there? Chances are, it's almost always have a bigger space.
 
Yeah this is actually more complicated than I was thinking... I don't know what the "correct" solution is... Probably to force the user to choose a specific media path before enabling the media server.
