New Around Here
Hi all,

I'm a newbie when it comes to networking, so I appreciate your patience.
I have many devices on my network and I want to make sure that I have done enough to protect my familys privacy. What would you guys advise I do to ensure that my data isn't open to hacks.
This is a list of some of my wired/wireless devices.

Netgear 7800 router -
an unmanned switch with the following connected:
Synology nas
smart tv's
shield
wireless ip cam(wansview) - this is probably the most vulnerable.
tplink wifi plug
powerline - another wireless router which a ring cam connects to.
laptop

thanks

make sure you have the latest firmware running the router.
set the router to drop all unsolicited packets from outside,
disable WAN (remote) management access to router for login.
set a long router password - 20+ characters if possible

firewall block TV, IP cam, NAS from sending packets to the WAN (internet) and receiving packets from the WAN(Internet)
change the password from the default for any device that has a login. use as long a length as possible.
create a wireless password as long as possible - 20+ characters

i don't know what "shield" is.
run an antivirus/malware product on laptops etc.
don't clik on links in email.

just a start.

Thanks for that.
Shield is a streaming media player. If i disabled the TV from accessing the internet then I wouldn't be able to watch any youtube netflix etc? How would I update the Nas without internet? Should I set up a guest network for wireless devices? what about vlans ?
