I have been having intermittent problems for a couple months now getting connectivity with my AC56U running Merlin and an OpenVPN client for all my traffic. Previously I would try many things and restart many times, sometimes something would 'fix' the problem, sometimes nothing would, but the next day things would be working again.
This evening I found the problem in a way that is (finally) perfectly repeatable. Tested with current firmware and the one previous.
If I manually set the DNS server addresses, I have no connectivity, although the main router page does say I'm connected to the internet. If I return the DNS to automatic, everything works perfectly, except the VPN leaks DNS (and I'm not able to access websites that are blocked locally). Over the last few months, with intermittent problems, the DNS has been set to Google's addresses (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), this evening I have also tried OpenDNS and Level3 . Same results. Perfectly repeatable, whether VPN on or off; if the DNS is set manually, no connectivity, set it to auto and connectivity returns.
Any ideas?
