Ports remain closed after setting up port forwarding

I have an ac86u running the latest Merlin. I just just tried to setup port forwarding to open the port for Qbittorrent. I set everything up but when I got to a port testing site, they tell me my port is closed. I turned off all firewalls and even tried DMZ. Everytime I check my port remains closed. I have tried "netsh firewall show state' from the commmand prompt and it does not list my port as being open. I am completely baffled. Looking for some suggestions. Oh yeah, The P2P software is working perfectly.

I have tried everything from that thread. I still can not get an open port. As you can see from my qbittorrent log it is finding the port. But whenever I try to scan it from multiple sources it says port is closed. GRC ShieldsUP! says port status is Stealth.

yes to the VPN but tried without it also, and I tried with and without UPnP

That's likely why the test is failing.

I run qBittorrent behind a VPN but port forwarding is pointless in such a configuration and the test will fail. So don't waste you time trying to get port forwarding to work. qBittorrent doesn't need it and can work with the VPN anyway.

i thought about it after I replied. the VPN is tunneling past the router.
My problem is the Torrent site I use keeps telling me I'm not connected
