[Preview 384/NG] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.5 early test builds

Not in the coming days is all I can tell for now. Currently waiting on Asus before I build a third alpha release, they've been slowly trickling new GPL drops to my FTP server these past few days.

There are also a few other things I need to look into before I reach a feature-freeze state and begin the beta stage.

As initially indicated, I'm expecting the whole development cycle for 384.5 to last around 2-3 months.
Slowly take your time... most important is update of security patch, if any. The firmware is at stable stage I think.

so I have been seeing a lot of this in my system log since updating to beta 2 a couple of weeks ago... o_O what is going on?

I believe it's used by network discovery to build/maintain the network map? see What is LLDP, so may explain some of the quirks seen by some.

Thank you for the update and all the hardwork you put into this.

Apologies if this as already been posted before.
I'm running alpha 2 on an RT-AC5300. I installed it over alpha1. In alpha1 the traffic analyzer was working for me. Now with alpha2, when i navigate to the traffic analyzer page, it crashes httpd.
I then need to login to the router and run service restart_httpd in order to be able to get back into a working UI.

UPDATE: So it looks like all i needed to do was physically unplug my router, wait a few seconds then plug it back in. Now traffic analyzer appears to be working again and i don't get the httpd lockups.
Perhaps i needed to power off post firmware update?

Current Alpha is extremely stable for my needs, and I'm running it 24/7. I work from home with VPN connections to work at least 10 hours a day. I have yet to find a need to reboot, and have never had a VPN session drop. Looking really good so far.

What model?

Upgraded to alpha_3 and everything is running smooth thus far. Upgraded right over alpha_2. Thank you, Eric!

I had planned to wait for the beta, but I think it is time to take the plunge.
Thanks, Merlin!

Alpha 2 was rock solid. Didn’t even think it was an alpha.

If alpha 3 is anything like it, it will be a great one too. :)

The client list is beyond broken with this latest Alpha build on the AC88u, back to 384_2. It constantly refreshes and fails to detect certain clients.

Upgraded to Alpha3. Compared release notes from Alpha2 and Alpha3.
Changes are:
- NEW: Merged withh GPL 384_20648
- NEW: Merged RT-AC68U, RT-AC5300 binary blobs from 384_20648
- NEW: Merged RT-AC86U SDK and binary blobs from 384_20648
- NEW: service-event script, executed before any service
call is made. First argument is the event (typically
stop, start or restart), second argument is the target
(wireless, httpd, etc...).
Note that this script will block the execution of
the event until it returns.
- CHANGED: Updated miniupnpd to 20180412.
- CHANGED: Revised OpenVPN server options:
o Removed "Server Poll" (which didn't work
properly), and reimplemented watchdog service,
hardcoded to 2 mins frequency.
o Removed Firewall setting (firewall rules are now
always created, and the broken External mode
was fixed and integrated into the new Client
Access setting). You can now use the postconf
script to override it.
o Keys and certificates can now be up to 7999
characters long.
- CHANGED: Revised OpenVPN client options: (same as above for "OpenVPN server options) but added:
o Added "refresh" link which can be clicked to
re-query the public IP endpoint of the tunnel
o Keys and certificates can now be up to 7999
characters long.
- CHANGED: Re-designed Log -> Connections page into a table
with sortable fields.
- CHANGED: Moved "Beta firmware" option to the Tools -> Other
Settings page
- CHANGED: Improved layout of the Firmware Update page
- CHANGED: DHCP server no longer sends an empty DHCP
option 252 (for WPAD), Windows should now
behave correctly without these.
- CHANGED: Blocking custom scripts such as service-event
and pre-mount will now wait a maximum of 120
seconds before resuming normal operations, to
prevent accidental lockouts.
Thanks for a great work! Will report back when I find issues on my RT-AC86U.

Just reporting the kernel crash on a AC86U with alpha 3... It started with alpha 2....
I'll get about few hundred of these and then it stops.

RT-AC86U after 1 week alpha2 WiFi didnt work anymore, extremly slow, devices could not connect, just enough to make a reboot from PC to get it working again, after first boot download master refused to run (deact/act not solved problem), so second reboot cleared it.

updated to alpha3 now on both units (86U&68U), lets see how it will perform or hangs after a week too.

RT-AC68U (previous 20648) I had to reboot after update alpha3 second time too, first time Wifi did not work, reboot over LAN connection.

Thx for the new build, been running alpha 2 without problems since it's release on my 86U.

See work has started on merging upstream kernel 4.1, can't wait, enhanced security is always a good thing :D.
