Wi-Fi chipmaker Quantenna today announced its QSR10R-AX chipset for 802.11ax mesh repeater networks.

The new device's claim to fame is that it's the world's first solution to combine three 4x4 802.11ax radios and integrated CPU cores. As Quantenna's block diagram above shows, three devices make up the chipset, the QT10R-AC digital core, plus QT7810X dual 4x4 5 GHz and QT6210X 2.4 GHz 4x4 RF front ends.

The device is targeted at enabling service providers to create 4x4 802.11ax extender/repeaters as companions to 4x4 or 8x8 residential gateways.

Quantenna's announcement did not mention specific products, but it had quotes with nice things to say from mesh Wi-Fi maker Plume and connectivity software maker SoftAtHome. Quantenna previously announced SoftAtHome Smart Wi-Fi runs on its QV860 chipset. Plume's CEO, Fahri Diner, sits on Quantenna's board of directors.

Quantenna expects to sample the QSR10R-AX chipset "to early access partners in the first half of 2018".
