RAM - What Does More Do For You?

New Around Here
Hey SNB,

I have been a long time lurker and this site helped me buy my first stand alone NAS, Synology DS410 about 4 years ago. Recently (last week), I purchased my next NAS, Asustor AS-606T and I am in love with it.

Now for the question, the Asustor AS-606T comes with 1GB of RAM installed and you can add another 2GB for a total of three. What can I expect for the 30.00 upgrade by adding 2GB of RAM to the system?

Thank you!

probably not much as a server unless it's transcoding or something. but consider it backup memory if one or the other fails. memory is cheap until they don't make it anymore

Hi,
When I upgraded memory to full on my Synology 713+ it's recognized and all being used. Depending what is being done it can speed up things. For an example if an app. needs buffers, increased buffer size will help.
