Rescue mode mystery

It appears the 56u is in rescue mode based on the slow blinking light. I have set up comp under win 10 as directed. But when I try to use the rescue app it says router is not in rescue mode and stops. Do i have to have the cables a certain way? I have ver 2.0.0.0 as reommended by Asus and have read through the directions. Dang it!

Edit, I have done this before on a 56u so I think it's a router problem, but I'm not experienced in this stuff.

What directions did you follow?
The computer shall be connected with a regular network cable to one of the router LAN ports.
Can you ping the router? If yes, what address?
What do you get when you open a web browser and try above router IP address?
