As I'm sure most of you know, there is a dearth of good dual-band wireless adapters for your standard PC. That being said, an economical solution would be to make your own.
Currently I would consider the Intel 6300 Mini-PCIe wireless adapter to be the best choice. It runs around $35 at Newegg. There are also readily available and inexpensive solutions for Mini-PCIe to PCIe wireless adapters (around $15).
For around $50 you have a top-of-the-line wireless solution, with 3 standard antenna attachments. You could go with simple paddle antennas etc for cheap, or even try some nicer "remote" antennas with longer leads to allow better placement to maximize signal strength.
My request would be for an article or review based on such a solution (or if you can find one better) to see what the state of wireless for desktop PC's could look like with quality adapters. Almost everything I've seen so far is that the desktop space has really REALLY suppar wireless solutions, and this would at least give it a fighting chance.
