Check for water damage.

That's hilarious, although what's truly hilarious is this device. Its a monstrosity of gaudiness.

Looks like it was never taken out of the bag. Booted to 3.0.0.4.386_47629. Region check shows it to be US. Gotta love Amazon used.

You've got a router with extra 1 pound of plastic - part of the "Gaming" marketing. Perhaps the main reason for the return.

Operation and Function should be more of a concern, than appearance.
GT-AX6000 w/ RMerlin working without issue!

Asuswrt-Merlin doesn't change the appearance of this router. Appearance is important.

Do you have a watch like this? Shows dual time, temperature, has a compass built-in. Great!

Merlin FW is worth it for this router just to get away from the annoying ROG interface.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be performing some wifi speed tests on the AX6000 and my AC86U. I doubt I'll see any significant difference, but I'll likely make the AX6000 my primary home router, and then keep the AC86U as a spare.

This router is a beast!

For reference, when connected via LAN, I get 931 MBPS down / 331 MBPS up, and here is the Wireless SpeedTest results. My laptop has an Intel AX210 running the latest official driver v22.190.0.4 . The router is using BETA Firmware v9.0.0.6.102.3506 . Everything is at default except for enabling the 160hz channel and Smart Connect is enabled.

@ronorbar has one, but it doesn't work as expected in his location and environment. If you guys can help him - great.

Anyone running Asus Mesh (backhaul wired or not) on the GT-AX6000 with the BETA firmware 102.3506? If yes, did you encounter any Mesh connectivity issues, like I had when I upgraded to the last NON BETA firmware 388.22068 ? I'm still running the previous Firmware on the AX6000 388.21617 which is wired backhaul meshed with my AX86U running firmware 388.21709 and I have NO Backhaul issues whatsoever. The 388.22068 had Mesh issues. Please post if you do. Thanks @Spartan

For less money than I spent on the RT-AX86U, which is no longer favored by Asus, I purchased the GT-AX6000 used from Amazon. It just works, unlike the RT-AX86U which has always been rather quirky. Not sure if it is the firmware or possibly defective hardware, but the 2.4GHz radio has never been great and 160MHz on the 5GHz radio was elusive (like Bigfoot).

Now, thanks to the GT-AX6000, I have a 2.4GHz radio that works properly and ALWAYS have 160MHz with the 5GHz radio. Same location, same clients, same neighbors.

If I had lots of extra money to spend, I would always buy TWO of every router to help figure out if a problem is hardware or firmware.

I am running the BETA 9.0.0.6.102.3506 with 2x GT-AX6000 wired backhaul AiMesh. Everything is perfect and not one disconnection since I set the routers up.

3.0.0.4.388.22068 is a crappy firmware, slow UI and I had 1 disconnection in the short time that I used it which was 2 days. The beta is much more stable. just for reference, when I bought the routers they had 3.0.0.4.388.21617 firmware installed out of the box and that too was very stable.

I totally agree. 22068 was junk. I had multiple Mesh disconnects with it. The router is extremely stable now with .21617. Thanks for the input.

If anyone is interesteed UK amazon as this router up for sale for £199.99 dispatched and sold by amazon, i have just jumped on one coming tomorrow, would be a upgrade from my RT-AX58U.
Which of the merlin firmware is the stable one you all think, just downloaded GT-AX6000_3004_388.6_0.zip just to be ready and set to update it, any thoughts ?????

If you haven't done so already, use the forum search to search through the Asus-Merlin subforum for posts about the GT-AX6000 using the Asus-Merlin firmware. It will give you an idea or sense at what firmware users of that router are using and any issues they have with it.
And a search of the entire Asus subforum for GT-AX6000 where there are additional discussion about firmware issues (if any) with that router.

Unless you have a need for any of the new features in the 3.0.0.6 branch, go with Merlin 388.6. Its stable and works great.
