Router going down??

Hello. I have an AX-88UPro. Up till now i have had no problems. It seems to almost go down for several seconds. My IPTV setup looses connection (TiviMate reports http exception error) and my phone/desktop will spin as well. Several seconds later all is good for awhile. I my running 3006.102.7 and a USB SSD with Skynet, Diversion, and Unbound a VPN and no TrendMicro stuff. Also I can be looking at something on the router and it kicks me out. Drives me nuts.

Two lines in syslog stood out to me:

18:16:01 WAN(0)_Connection: WAN(0) link down.
18:16:19 WAN(0)_Connection: WAN was restored.

that cannot be good.

thanks all

Possibly a bad or failing WAN cable. Could also be the WAN IP address is not renewing from the ISP. Some ISPs have a rather short lease time (my Brightspeed FIOS used to have a 15 minute lease but now has a 30 minute lease).
Could also be the Merlin Firmware. I've tested the 3006.102.7 firmware with Diversion and Skynet for a short time and had no real issues. But I feel the Asus firmware (current beta) works exceptionally well on my AX86U Pro and node.
Two recommendations:
1. Factory reset the router and set it up manually (no saved settings file) with a minimal configuration. No add ons and basically default settings including WIFI.
2. Flash the Asus firmware then upgrade to the beta thriugh the router firmware upgrade. Factory reset and manually configure with mostly default settings.

The WAN down message suggests the router lost the physical connection to your modem or ONT. So that's likely to be either a cable/socket problem or the modem/ONT was rebooted.

Additionally there are messages indicating that the USB drive disconnected twice. I don't know whether that was something you did intentionally or whether it indicates a fault.

EDIT: This seems to be the same problem you reported in October last year. The same WAN messages in the log file.

thanks for the ideas guys. When I replaced the cable from the modem to the router it settled down for hours and I thought I got off easy. Well is started up again. I flashed as suggested and am running with all defaults for quite a few hours. So far so good!

thanks again

Check for how "wiggly" the cable connection is at both ends. If moving the termination around in the socket causes the issue, look for slightly bent wire finger in the socket on both devices. Sometimes, a different brand or spec of cable will fit tighter, but carefully moving the wire finger back into alignment can improve it. Also, could be some dust/dirt in the receptacle causing the issue.

Well....after no problems yesterday, overnight and into today it is really acting up now. I attached at SSD, formatted it and when I went to install unbound I was told I need to turn DNS director on, that prompt is not there and I keep getting logged out of the router. I can log back in fine but something is wrong. I tried two different browsers.

Related?? A cat6 cable (2.5 pc to 2.5 router) says its running at 100mps. Hardware failing? Maybe its time for a new router. BE92U?

I must have done some evil things in a past life.
thanks

The trigger seems to be the ssd here. TL;DR Have you tried a different ssd, or a different power supply (the current power supply may be struggling with the extra load)?
