Router issues AXE-16000 failure?

I have a AXE16000 as mentioned above bought in February of 2023. In the past week or so, I've developed a wacky problem every few days. Any wireless device that uses the 6E radio (phone, Firestick) suddenly takes a dive. My internet supposedly crashes during this period and doesn't work. With my app saying the modem is offline (I use a Comcast XB8 in Bridge mode) Yet, any wired in devices (Computer, TV, wired in roku box) seemingly continue to work fine. As do any wireless devices using 5.1 or 5.2 wireless. (Living room TV, Firestick and Roku Box) Like 10-15 minutes later, 6E comes back and everything's fine. Dunno when it'll go out again.

Is the 6E radio in my router taking a dive. Do I need to change channels? Is the entire router taking a dive? Is it my modem?

Where would I go from here?

BTW, Merlin FW 3006.102.4

What does the system log show? Particularly around the time you have the WiFi issues?
It may help others if you post your WiFi settings so they can review and offer up suggestions.
As always, as a last resort when weird issues start happening, try performing a hard factory reset followed by a manual configuration (do not import a saved router.cfg file).
PS: And are you running any add-on scripts or have a USB storage device attached?
Are you using VPN at all when the issue happens?
What DNS servers are the WiFi clients using? If a local DNS server (Diversion, Pi-Hole or similar), have you checked that the DNS server isn't having an issue?

Dunno if this helps but here's the system log:

Aside from the log, how do I post Wifi settings?

I have a last resort up my sleeve if need be, but if this can be fixed without a nuke and redo from scratch, I'd love that. (I never reload configs just for that reason. I take pictures of everything.)

No scripts or USB devices plugged in.

No VPN at the time.

Dunno about DNS servers. I had OpenDNS in the router and according to the modem, Comcast DNS severs. If you want these, I can get them.

My AXE-16000 started dropping the 5G-2 connection (iPhone 16 Pro Max drops Wi-Fi and reverts to 5G at least once a day) while 5G-1 and 2.4 GHz are still OK. I'm thinking it's probably the beginning of the end of that radio. This started about two weeks ago.

Wonderful. Thank you for sharing your story. That sounds identical to my story, except with 6E instead of one of the 5s. I have a warranty in my pocket should it keep doing it. I'm thinking of choosing the GT98 Pro if I replace it. Any idea why a radio starts going? Or is just general wear on something that has run 24/7 for going on 2 years?

Similar story here:

You'll find quite a few people with issues and returning GT-BE98 Pro. Do you really need a 4-band router? RT-BE96U?

I saw the GT-98 Pro as the next step up from my AXE 16000. Especially if it really is failing. I believe I did see that topic. Here's to hoping ASUS gets their BE/Wifi7 stuff together soon. If the warranty I have on the 16000 didn't cover like 95% of the replacement cost, I wouldn't be upgrading. Probably just pull my AX86U from storage and bite the bullet with that for a while.

Wanted to update anyone wondering how I turned out. I plugged in my AX86U and ran it for a while with the latest merlin of the time on it. Fresh config as well. No issues. After the latest 102.5 Merlin release, I hooked back up my AXE16000 with a fresh config as well and it's been almost 2 days. Been solid.

Those who suggested I was having issues and factory reset probably hit the nail on the head. I think I'm going to make it a thing to reset from scratch once a year to clear out the cobwebs. Previously, I had been upgrading over old Merlin for 2 years+ Might I add with the 16000 as it was, I'd been having issues getting the full speed my computer was capable of. (At least 1 Gig.) No problem with that after the reset. So another issue hopefully solved.

I'm gonna continue to test and if it's cool for a few more weeks, I think I found my solution, And I will run this router into the ground.

I'll come back and let ya'll know how it goes.

That is good news good thing you did the reset , you saved a lot of money . the router .radio should not burn out in 2 years , mine has been going at least 4 years with tons of traffik 24/7 . Good luck hope the router lasts another 8 years or more

Great to hear.

I RMAd my first 16000 in early 2023 after just a few months use (boot loop when upgrading firmware) but it’s replacement has been rock solid.

It’s by far the best (and ugliest!) router I’ve owned to date. I’ve no interest in WiFi 7 just yet so here’s hoping that these do last a good few more years.

One can hope it lasts for 10 years. If it was failing, the warranty I have on it would allow me to upgrade to the 98 Pro for like 75 bucks. So not a lot of money, but at the moment, money's money. So my not having to warranty this and send it off makes me not have to find a box to fit this and hope it gets there without further damage. These not removable antennas are not fun.
