Router recommendations for New home network.

BattleCruiser

New Around Here
Hi, been a lurker for years while getting great advise from forums.

I need a recommendation for a router for my home network.

The network will have 41 wired connections (cat6)
at least 15 wireless connections,
network will be distributing video from HTPC to xbox's and PS3's and appletv's
there will be a WHS that gets backups from my work,
and will require VPN connections.

I am considering TP-Link TL-er6120 or the asus rt66u/ac66u.

Current Netgear WDNR3700 tends to cause video buffering.

Currently have Shaw 25mbs down and 2.5 up.

Everyone's input would be greatly appreciated.

Simple..

Invest in the ER6120 as the main wired VPN router.
Also invest in ESR600H as the main WiFi Access point.
What you should do is get external managed L2 switch with 48 ports since you have 41 nodes connect that into the manage L2 switch on the ER6120. Get battery backup along with full power cycle device 9-way switch these help maintain your network gear is running at peak voltage also saves energy also.

BattleCruiser, let us know how you like the ER6120 router. I would like your impressions. I have been running one a few weeks now. It is the first non Cisco router I have run. It seems fast and smooth. I did upgrade the firmware first thing. I do like the DHCP server and logging functionally as it is very robust. The rack mount is nice since I have a rack. There are a couple of issues but nothing I can’t live without. I stream HD movies for one Apple TV without issues with 2 users online at the same time using TWC 20 meg down 1.5 up.
I wish they would test this router. It seems like a lot of router for the money. Two hundred dollars buys a router in a class above the normal home router in my opinion.

The issues are listed on TP-Link web's site. Just go look them up. I am having no issues running this router at my house.

Every router has issues even Cisco routers. You just have to look them up.

Just moved into house with internet finally setup. Slowing assembling network, so many things to do.

Router has not given any problems yet. Cable guy almost had orgasm on my home network setup.:D

Not a year yet but the ER6120 runs without issues. Speed is wise it quick. Since the ISP has double my downloads and uploads I seem great results. Worth the investment I had made on the ER6120 and SG3216 from TP-LINK.

When the ISP double my connection from 50d to 105d and then going into the ER6120 to make the changes gave me 132d.

Stream from Netflix in HD
Remote into other System
Running the NAS
Streaming Videos, Pic, doc, anything from the NAS no issues.
Play heavy gaming graphics over on FaceBook or Kixeye Servers
I do the second both Wired or Wireless (ESR600H) no issues

Download and upload from Android Tablets and Smartphones

Stream directly on HTML or on several network media players from SONY.

No overheating and no problems from TPLINK products..
