Router speed problem

MikeAH

New Around Here
Hello,

So I have Rogers Hitron 4582 (Giganet) and the AC 86U. I did a speedtest (fast.com) and got about 350 mbps. I reset my modem ran straight cable speed test off modem and got 1.2 gbps. Hooked back up to the router and speed test drops down to the same 350 mbps. Modem has been switched to bridge mode.

What's up with that???

Thank you

Mike

Is hardware acceleration enabled? What firmware are you running on the RT-AC86U?

Are you using QoS or any other feature that would disable HW acceleration?

Did you power down your entire network for at least 15 to 20 minutes (including the Rogers Hitron 4582) before power up with the RT-AC86U in its place?

Latest firmware I just did a complete factory reset on the router so it is set to what ever factory settings are, my speeds are now up. I found another thread on the web where a person had similar problem and they had to keep resetting there router. I am going to monitor for the next few days. But you recommend waiting 20 mins in between start up of each piece of hardware?

Thank you for quick response.

No, not 20 minutes between each piece of hardware.

20 minutes (an hour is better for some ISP's) for the entire network to be 'down'.

Then, power up the modem/ONT. Wait until it is fully up and functional (the lights should be all showing 'go' for the model you have). This is normally about 5 minutes or so.

Then power up the main router. Wait for 5 minutes after it has booted up.

Now, power on the rest of the equipment while checking that performance is still acceptable with each new device that is attached/connected/powered on.

Many times the cable between the router and modem can be an issue. Might be worth trying a new cable.
By latest firmware do you mean Asus 384.81918? If so look for my recommended settings for the AC86U.
