RT-AC3200 lockup or crashing.

I have my RT-AC3200 for a couple of weeks now and I experienced a lockup or crash twice now. Firtst on the fw it came with and later after updating to the latest 9529.

What happens is that one moment everything is fine and then all of a sudden all connection, either wired or wireless, is lost. The WAN light on the router and a LAN light are flashing rapidly.
Switching the router off and on fixes it but for how long I don't know.

Has someone else experienced this too?

Can someone explain it and how to troubleshoot? Is it fixable or do I have a faulty unit?

Have you reset your router after flashing?

yes latest Asus and merlin 380:59 froze and locked my 3200 after less than 2 days , Merlin 380:58 works very well though , one 3200 has run over 3 weeks nonstop with 380.58 .

Hi, I experienced also 2 lockups in the last month. Coincidentally I activated QoS in this last period. Do you guys that have lockups do have QoS activated ? I have now deactivated it to see if the problem reproduces..

Yah, turn qos off, and smart connect off. Use wifi analyzer, and dial in the channels with least interference, and the router is beast mode!

Hi, well.. the lockups are not due to QoS after all... it locked once more without QoS.. after 10 days powered on.

I have never seen my 3200 lock up , freeze or crash .

What temperatures are you seeing for the CPU and wireless ?

Well, I keep a close eye on temps and they rarely go over 75ºC. The thing is more related to powered on time (roughly 8-10 days) for my specific configuration for the three lockups I've experienced. Probably some leak or counter overflow or ... It is also not related w/samba or WAN traffic (very different profile for these two factors this month and previous month). Most likely something related to AiProtection, traffic analyzer, parental controls or wifi traffic.

Hi, just a small update to point out that I am still debugging to find out the reason of these lockups every couple of days. Up to now I have been able to discard QoS, Samba, VPN and nvram invalid values from previous firmwares as source for this error (reproduced lockups w/these features disabled). Right now testing with disabled Network AIProtection features disabled...

..Yes, a hardware problem is also in my list of items to check and/or discard, as well as the power supply, but w/low priority, since it is the more expensive to fix one and does not look very likely at this point...

All right, locked up again after 3 days w/out AiProtection features.. Now disabled traffic monitoring...

Mines locked up quite a few times too, and other behaviours such as right at this moment I can't log in to ssh or the web page, but it's still routing and file sharing ok.

Don't think I've been able to have it on longer than about 10 days either without having to hard reboot.

OK, Got it working for 20 straight days !! Only changes vs previous situation (when it locked up every 2-4 days) were :

- Traffic monitoring statistic deactivated (through traffic analyzer->statistic page)
- Reenabled tools->hourly full network rescans (had it disabled when lockups occoured)

So if your 3200 is experiencing lockups try to see if any of this two could be the culprit.
PS. This is working with fw hgg 380.59 (based on merlin 380.59)

Brand new, out of the box my AC3200 was disconnecting from the modem after about 24 hours of up time. After an Firmware upgrade and then an RMA, I just figured out it was traffic analyzer->statistic which I turned on immediately both times. Now that it's disabled the router has been working great for 3 days.

Has anybody reported this to Asus? When I contacted support after the first RMA they wanted me to RMA it again. It seems that is their "go to" without checking on the features and the traffic analyzer->statistic was one of the main reasons I wanted this router.

Hi, great to have helped. Definetly this should be reported to Asus, but I am affraid I can not do it since I am not using an official firmware.. In any case and to post some feedback, my router is still going strong w/36 days uptime after switching off traffic analyzer->statistic.

Just and FYI,
I ran into the issue again when enabling the Apps analysis under QoS - WAN/LAN Bandwidth Monitor. I've sent the info to their support team but so far all they want to offer is an RMA.

Did you try the Apps Analysis?

Hi, no, I am not using the apps analysis thing since some months ago, but it does not seem strange that it also causes the lockup, since it may very well be using the same code used by traffic analyzer->statistic to classify the traffic.
