RT-AC68U (Asuswrt-Merlin) DNS forwarding fails

oshae

New Around Here
Hello

I have an RT-AC68U using the latest Merlin firmware (374.42_2).

I am using OpenDNS servers defined in my WAN settings and nothing under DNS server for my DHCP settings so that the router handles DNS lookups and forwards them to OpenDNS.

A few times a day I will notice that all of a sudden I can't browse the web. If I open a command prompt and try to ping a few sites the lookup fails (ping by IP works and I can ping a hostname from the router itself and it works).

After 1-2 minutes all of a sudden it will start working again. I'm not sure if something with the forwarding is breaking or where to look (logs etc.) to investigate further.

Has anyone else encountered this before?

Thanks

Oshae
