RT-AC68U VPN Connection Problem

MarkT

New Around Here
Hello All! I have a new Asus RT-AC68U wireless router. I purchased it for the VPN capability.... but, I am having 'issues" getting it to "see" computer on the network. When hokked directly to the router wirelessly I can see everything and do any fuction necessary on any of the shared files. However, when I connect over the Internet via the VPN .... Nothing!! It connects up quickly and when I look at the VPN it shows the connection is established. But, nothing shows up on the remote computer. I am trying to connect to the networks when away from the shop via the Internet. The Pass-Through's all enabled.... just nothing!! Can anyone provide any thoughts?? Thank!

What VPN are you using?

Are you trying to access the shares with '\\192.168.xxx.xxx' format, or, with their name?

I have tried several. Now it is left on "Automatic" detect. Guessing it is PPTP.

The router is set up as the DHCP for the network with a Static IP connected to my T1. I only have one server connected via wire, running 2008 R2. The block seems to be in the Asus router. I can access the shared file from another computer if i connect via the wireless without an issue. I am new to all of this, not sure I am explaining it well.

But, what VPN are you using? OpenVPN? or a paid service?

Going to completely show my ignorance here.... I assumed with a PPTP protocol I didn't need to use an OpenVPN. Is this wrong.?I assumed the point-to-point was what the router did internally to connect. Like I stated, it is connecting fine.... just can do anything.
