I have a 86U that I've had for almost 2 years and for the most part it has been great. I have 1Gb Verizon FIOS and wired I can consistently get around 880/930. I have a few 3-4 stream AC wireless pci-e adapters from various manufacturers (Asus, TP-Link and Rosewill) and when I perform a local file transfer test I can get 650mbps speeds from three different computers (wireless client from wired source). This is about what I'd expect at ranges of 20-35 feet. Here is what I don't understand. When I do a speedtest online (take your pick) I'm only seeing 350mbps downloads. Uploads on the other hand are fine at 650-900mbps. Can anyone explain why my wireless internet download speedtests are low?

Are you using any QoS settings in the router?

Have you tested connected directly to FIOS to bypass your equipment?

No, QoS is off.

My connection is FIOS ONT straight to my Asus router. As stated before wired is all I can expect and I'm not sure how I could bypass anything further.

Can you wire a PC to the FIOS ONT to speedtest without your router in the path?

I could...but perhaps I wasn't clear in my initial post. Using my router I already can achieve roughly 900/900 wired via various internet speedtests. It is only the wireless connections that are limited to 300mbps, which makes some sense. But then, I can get 650mbps doing local file transfers via wireless, which indicates a strong link rate to the router. I have seen this a while back and had always attributed it to a limited capability laptop or an older desktop, but now it occurring with a very potent I5-9600K based system.

I see it now... sorry.

I'm not sure sure what speeds you should expect or how you are measuring the internal file transfer... I've never had ISP speeds above 115 actual so have never considered getting more speed.

Can you query the OS for an adapter link rate speed to see how it's connecting, protocol and number of streams-wise?

Also, you can open a wireless connection status in Windows and watch the link rate during a test to see if the connection speed jumps around, perhaps indicating instability of some sort in that connection.

For the local file test I'm just copying a large .iso file from a wired computer to a wireless computer locally. Both systems are Windows 10 and I'm using 'Task Manger->Performance->Ethernet' to monitor the transfer speed. The wireless connection status link rate is initially at 1.3gbps second, but I have not monitored this during the transfer test. I'm not sure why the link rate would be different between a local file transfer and an internet speed test, but I could give it a try.

I'm not an expert on file transfer... but on Windows, when I copy a file across the network, it is much slower than when I use a particular backup program that apparently does it differently and much faster.

I would think its a firmware related bug, often read here that speeds down will be only half. Try with (much) older firmware and report back.
