RT-AC87U Allow SSH access from WAN is Ignored

Alexandre Gomes

New Around Here
Hi,

Today I was checking the logs for some stuff and I discovered several messages about SSH login attempts from the WAN. I left the SSH open but the "Allow SSH access from WAN" option was always turned off.

After testing, the SSH was indeed responding and I was able to connect. I tried activating the option, tested, turned off, then tested again and it let me login everytime until I disabled SSH altogether.

Is this a known issue?

Device is RT-AC87U with Merlin 378.56_2 firmware.

Make sure you didn't disable the firewall.

That's it. Thanks for the tip, maybe it should also be noted next to the checkbox...

Noted that disabling a firewall opens your whole router to the Internet? Sounds already kinda implicit to me.
