I posted in December about having an issue with my router that turned out to be a warranty claim. They sent me a new unit worked great until last night. Logged in to reboot and it wanted to do a firmware upgrade(3.0.0.4.380_4180) so I went along with it. I immediately felt regret about doing it from the bad luck in the past. Why mess with something that is working. So 10 minutes go by and my son comes up stairs saying he lost his internet and I do a quick Wifi scan and yup my 5 ghz band is gone. Went through the wireless troubleshooter sticky and still cannot get it back. I've tried recovery mode to earlier firmwares and still no luck at getting 5 ghz back. The light is on for 5 ghz but its solid. 2.4 is flashing away showing traffic. Does anyone have experience fixing this.

do factory default after update fw ?

Yea after every firmware update I did a factory restore and still no luck. If I go into the settings and shut the radio off for 5g the light will go out. Turn it back on light comes on but no device in my house(around 10+ including a A66U as a repeater) can see it.

Set the control channel manually to a lower channel..44 or 48 something like that.
After the firmware update the router might be transmitting on a high channel and not all devices can deal with that,

I got the similar problem with my AC-88U, sometimes the 5G wifi disappear.....
System log shows nothing and I have to change some setting in 5G band to make it appear again.

Got a suggestion on which settings to change because I've tried hiding and un-hiding SSID and that worked once last night for about 5 seconds and it immediately disappeared and never worked again. I've changed the channels, wireless mode to N only back to auto, super frustrating and its the Firmware 4180 that triggered this for me

Ok after further messing around with all the settings I changed everything in the 5G band to crazy settings. Did another factory restore and when I changed the Wireless mode to N only this time my 5g came back. If i switch to N/AC mix it disappears and auto disappears. Is there any downside to having it in N only?

Happened once while moving from merlin back to standard firmware. For me it was fixed with a hard reset procedure using the WPS button as well as fully removing the connection from all clients and reconfigure from scratch.
