RT-AX89X ignores 5GHz channel selection on firmware 3.0.0.4.388_33744

I have two RX-AX98X 3.0.0.4.388_33744 in a MESH with 10GbE wired back-haul.

I can successfully set the channel on 2.4GHz network.
Whatever I try on 5GHz seems to be treated as automatic and mostly end up on channel 48 which is very busy, all other 5GHz bands free.
I have logged in through ssh and set wl_channel=108, wl1_channel=108 (it seems settings on mesh node ignored) tried other values like 56, 36, 42 but does not to make any difference.
nvram commit and restart wireless as well as GUI:

Did anyone be able to recreate my findings? I don't remember earlier firmware having the same issue.

Are you sure it is not RADAR detection setting the channel back? Set the control channel to Auto and see where it ends up. In most cases it is not a great idea to manually set a channel in the DFS range.

Edit: The new firmware may do a better job of detecting RADAR interference.
