RT-BE92U New Merlin Firmware

OMG after not being able to use the router after installing Merlin Firmware beta and doing a hard reset.... The problem was fixed by doing a nvram erase && reboot I'm back to using the router we are good now....

So it's not for sale now? Happy bunny?

VLAN is currently not supported by models that support Asus Smart Home Master. No idea if that will ever change in the future.
Thanks just sent the router back , did not even bother to unpack it once I read this . I avoid most things with smart as a selling point , I would rather be in control of how I set up my networks . Nothing "smart" in my house , like keeping things stupid

Smart Home isn't about automation, it's about providing a simpler, more user friendly way of managing the network through the mobile app. The name is just marketing fluff, you can totally ignore it - the only drawback is currently, manual VLAN configuration is not available for devices supporting this feature.

The feature seem to mostly be available on some Zen Wifi models, as well as more mid-range Wifi 7 models like the RT-BE58U and RT-BE92U.

Thanks , that is just what I was looking for . And you seem to be giving the router a good workout , if it is stable with all you are running should have no problems with my setup
The 6 Ghz range
Have you seen an improvement on the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands ?? And what kind of range do you have with wifi 7 clients .?
The range of 6 GHz is about 80 percent of 5 GHz, I can't measure real Wifi 7 because that would require MLO, but it should also be kept in mind that 6 GHz is currently only stable with Power Saving mode.

Thanks for the valuable information.

thanks for the valuable information. I‘ll have to wait then for a new model release from ASUS in a year or two. I can’t justify the price I would need to pay for quad bands in my use environment.

Let's hope this model will be good too someday, if ASUS finally solve it with software.
I only kept it because I was able to buy it very cheaply and I trust that it will be good one day.
In the meantime, I can use the other functions with Merlin,
and it seems to work properly even under heavy load, all it needs is 6 GHz operating at full signal strength and MLO.

Returning to the coverage, I measured these from a distance of 15 meters, through 2 walls:

Quite an interesting thing happened. I got another router like this for a very cheap price. I thought I would start testing it to see exactly when and why 6 Ghz and MLO are not working. I saw that some people were fine using the latest official firmware and after a few hard resets. Well, I tried it on the new one, and everything worked.

I tested for 3 hours with all the functions without problem. So I thought the latest firmware really fixed things. To be sure, I installed merlin on it too, but it continued to work stably. I say great, because then my original might have a hardware defect. No problem, I'll replace it under Max warranty.

However, I also turned on all the functions on the original before that so that I had logs of the error, and this also works. :)

Since then, the 3 routers (2 RT-BE92U and one RT-AX86U) have been working in Aimesh, and the two RT-BE92Us have been working flawlessly with 6Ghz and MLO for two days now.

So, you're saying that on the first router it was a matter of a bad flash?

Well no. I didn't refrash the original since I last tested 6 Ghz few weeks ago, but now it's working. I don't know why.

I also enabled MLO after reading this post. This is the first time I've had MLO on, and I'm not sure what to look for or expect.

What issue did you run into before when you had a problem with MLO?

What issue did you run into before when you had a problem with MLO? There were reboots There were reboots, There were reboots, and There were reboots, and connections There were reboots, and connection breakdowns.
There was continuous reboot and connection break.
Sometimes there was a problem only after a few hours.

Ok, something really went wrong. All of a sudden, all the pre-configured client names disappeared and AiMesh fell apart. I had to hard reset them all. I have to set everything up again, now it works somewhat.
I'll leave it like this and monitor it, but right now the whole AiMesh thing is pretty weird, no MLO between the two RT-BE92Us, even though I put them close together, and of course MLO is turned on on the network...
Another thing is that sometimes one node disappears, sometimes the other.

However, the main router keeps the signal stable. Maybe I'm really at the load threshold with the current unstable software...
It will remain like this for testing purposes for now, but I think I will remove the AiMesh network later.
