is it always NOT the best idea to use a CFG file to restore all your network settings after a hard factor reset?

If you restore the CFG file after a restore, then you have basically done nothing! The whole point of a factory reset after a new firmware update is to eliminate any misconfigurations of new/deprecated features that may result in issues/conflicts.

Yes, like after I set up everything, SSIDs, Ai Mesh, VPN, etc. I just make a backup just in case the router fails, or maybe I revert to that version later. The whole point of a factory reset when performing a new firmware upgrade is that it sometimes might cause conflicts as new features are added or old features are removed, so you'd wanna start fresh. I know it's a pain in the butt but that's the best practice.

Just reporting back that after a hard factory reset, and manually reconfiguring everything, I have been online for 6.5-days. Looking good so far!

Side story:
As for the RT-AXE7800 I sent in for repair, Asus wants $216 to "repair" it. The same router new right now is $219! Does this repair cost sound outrageous or normal?

I guess I just jinxed it...

All wifi crashed... Took a look at the logs and kept seeing these several times per minute or even several times per second:

kernel: WLC_SCB_DEAUTHORIZE error (-30)
kernel: WLC_SCB_DEAUTHENTICATE_FOR_REASON err -30

Google search says "caused by a bug in the Wi-Fi driver related to advanced power-saving features, especially Multi-Link Operation (MLO) in Wi-Fi 7"

I have now turned off MLO, I guess we'll see what happens... Maybe I should just send it back... Ugh...

I chatted with Asus Tech Support. This is what they said about the log entries:

The log entries WLC_SCB_DEAUTHORIZE error (-30) and WLC_SCB_DEAUTHENTICATE_FOR_REASON err -30 in your ASUS RTBE96U router logs are strong hints that your WiFi crashes are caused by the router forcibly disconnecting (deauthenticating/deauthorizing) wireless clients. These errors specifically indicate an internal failure within the wireless controller (WLC) software/firmware when trying to maintain a stable connection with a specific device (the SCB - Station Control Block). The -30 error code generally points to an internal state or memory management problem within the router's operating system (likely ASUSWRT/Merlin).

anyone else have these log entries frequently? or should I send this piece of crap back to the seller?

I have the BE96U running with latest merlin. It's been quite stable here. I have 4 SSIDs (MLO, IOT, my normal one and a guest one I use for work). I think you have a lemon.
