RT-N56u DLNA/UPNP Issue

fraggle

New Around Here
Hallo Guys!

The issue I have:
Some DLNA devices/speakers (HTC Desire Android 2.3, ) take a long time (15-30min) to be recognized by any UPNP Server/Client (XBMC, BubbleUPNP on Android 4.4). The HTC Desire can't detect any DLNA device. The firmware is the original 3.0.0.4.374.979

Story behind:
I had a N56u Router in use for one and a half year. The firmware 3.0.0.4.374.130 was installed last. During this time I had no issues in using UPNP/DLNA at all (everything with every device worked fine). Then I updated to Version 3.0.0.4.374.239 and the mentioned issues occurred (dlna devices cannot be found...). After trying a lot of different settings my router died, unfortunately.

Bought a AC56U (is sent back, already):
Worked like a charm in respect to UPNP streaming! Unfortunately the 2.4 GHz was too buggy, so this router went back.

Now:
Again, I bought a RT-N56u Router. The most terrific thing happened --> It has the same issues as my old router (first original 3.0.0.4.374.239 FW, now 3.0.0.4.374.979) and the same issues occurred.

Does anybody face similar issues or knows a solution to this problem?

Best regards,
Martin

Check the workgroup name, and make sure all the machines have the same name. I think it's default is "workgroup".

Usually if a device can't set the name, it should just scan the entire network.

Hi Guz!

Thanks for your reply. But I don't think it has something to do with the workgroup name since I have no windows machine and therefore no "Workgroup" name. My devices are: Macbook, HTC Desire, Nexus 5, a Pioneer XW-SMA1 DLNA/Airplay speaker, a MC200air Boston DLNA/Ariplay speaker, ....

It's weird because the same constallation of devices worked with the old n56u and the new ac56u.

Best regards!

Ok, it works now, in some way!

What didn't work:
*) I tried a bunch of different settings which, in my opinion, could or could not influence the UPNP traffic packets. No positive effect!

*)I got back to the first firmware with the new UI 3.0.0.4.374.130 again.
No positive effect!

What did work:
*) Downgraded to 1.0.1.8t. Worked!
--> Upgraded again up 3.0.0.4.374.130 (which worked before). Didn't work!

*) Loaded padawan custom firmware version 3.4.3.7-072. It worked!

In the end it is great that I can use my DLNA speakers again but on the other hand I don't know the reason for this dlna issue with the official new asus firmware. I really want to use the asus firmware!

Best regards,
Martin
