RT-N66U unique problem with 5Ggz band?

Hi guys,
Racking my brain on this one. I have a laptop and an Ipad 3 in my house. I am on the latest firmware as of last night. Both the laptop and Ipad 3 are connected to the 5ghz band. When I run speedtest.net on my laptop, my 5ghz speeds are exactly what they should be (27mbps or so on a 30mb line). When I run the same test using the speedtest mobile app on my Ipad, I am getting about 1/3 of that speed (nothing more than 8-9mbps). If I switch the Ipad over to the 2.4ghz, my speeds go all the way back up again.

If there was a general problem with the 5ghz band, I would expect to see the same slowness in both devices right? I get this speed degradation even with the ipad sitting right next to the router.

Any thoughts? Is this something localized to my ipad?

Whats your Channel Bandwidth set to for each channel and what firmware version are you using?

Using whatever version is the latest based on last night. I am not sure if this problem existed with previous firmware as I just ran the test last night. Bandwidth is set to 20/40.

You still may need to look at your firmware version, the latest of yesterday, maybe old tommorrow.
Tests with your laptop show that the router seems to be ok and provides proper throughput at 5 GHz.
Is the IPad software up to date?
Try to set the router 5 GHz to a bandwidth of 20 MHz and try a lower channel (36, 40, 44 or 48).
Did you make any other alterations in the 5 GHz settings?

One thing to try is to reset networking on your iPad. I find this very helpful when my iPad does this. Just go into Settings -> General -> Reset and select "Reset Network Settings".

Easy, the network settings get wiped and the iPad reboots, ready to be freshly connected to your wireless network. Really helpful, just takes a minute.
