I don't recommend buying a cable modem unless you have 6+ months with the cable-co's modem, and have no home service calls. My ISP (TimeWarner cable) loves to nail you with service fees like $50 or more if they claim it was due to a customer owned modem.

Mine has been great and I recommend this as the Arris branded one, not Motorola branded.
CM820A.
I have 110/12Mbps service.
I also take the ISP's digital phone (1/2 price of AT&T, and better service). I use a 2nd modem for the phone, to prevent phone outages if I reboot the cable modem.

Actually, after years of problems due to a bad coax outside my home, I've had no equipment problems in 2 years or so. And once or so a year they have a system outage of a few hours. But so too did landline POTS service from AT&T as it has fallen into disrepair. Indeed, a friend's AT&T landline quit - no dial tone, constant busy for inward calls. Probably due to recent rains. AT&T said best they can do is a repair call 6 days hence.

I see the CM820A's for $70 on the internet. But buy you own after a period of faultless operation using theirs.

TWC policy perhaps...

CoxHSI is $3.99/month period bolt-on to the plan - truck roll, level 3 escalation, whatever... cheaper than leasing their modems...

$3.99/mo. Are you talking about unlimited service for that monthly fee, no matter lease/own?

I'll have to see if TWC has that too.

yep... I think it's a bit ridiculous to be honest, but it covers my side of the demarcation for Phone/TV/Broadband as well as everything on their side...

So just got my TP Link Docsis 3.0 and TP Link C7 router delivered today.

Anyone with this router know if I need to flash with new firmware like DDT

I would not think so.
I use DOCSIS 3.0 with 110/10Mbps ISP service from the Arris modem through an ASUS NT-56NU which is a $75 router if you shop.

No reboots needed.
Stock firmware - latest download.

My desktop wired PC gets the above speeds. My Samsung Galaxy S6 get the above speed on 5GHz at short range via WiFi. The S6 gets 50Mbps+ one room away through 2 walls.
And the router has internal antennas.

I think a lot of people over-spend on WiFi.

Thx. Got router for about $70 so I'm happy.

So I got my equipment setup and got a MybookLive drive plugged directly through Ethernet into my Router. I also have a WDTV and PS4 directly into that router as well.

I have tworky setup on the Mybook and some mkv 1080p movies.

The movies stream fine to my PS4 however constantly buffer on the WDTV. Any suggestions as it doesn't seem to be a network issue.
