So how do people here generally feel another Asus compared to other brand's?

I'm asking since I haven't been with Asus too long, and other than the UPnP issue I have here and there, I think my RT-ac68u is pretty good. Though on this website I have seen people prefer Netgear, and sometimes Linksys but I will won't buy another Linksys router as long as Belkin owns them.

But yeah what do people here generally think about Asus products?

The very possitive thing to praise Asus for is their long term firmware upgrade support.
I guess it is because their smart choice with AsusWRT. The firmware is structured such that from old to new, all routers benefit the ongoing enhancements within the hardware limits.
Bugs are fixed, both functional and security related. New features are added.
No firmware or software is without bugs, by nature you will find good and bad firmware builds, so far Asus never let us down with new releases.
I have seen and experienced else, where within 6 months after the router release, firmware development stopped.
The Asus (router) hardware seems reliable, Asus is on the new development train (see the RT-AC87).
The routers are capable to get third party firmware, to satisfy everyones taste.
Pricing seems reasonable (realise that in the cost, you also pay your bit for firmware update and new hardware developments).

Like may people i have used my fair share of routers, if your looking for a business grade product then Netgear is my preferred option, having found there firmware very good.

For prosumer grade stuff then Asus is the way to go, Netgear and Belkin seem to be plagued with all sorts of problems, and i generally dislike the design of there products.

Up until my AC87 purchase Asus has always been my preferred route for an upgrade, however i think its clear that the AC87 firmware was far from being market ready, but like the N66 it will develop over time thanks to Asus allowing 3rd party developers to gain access to the SDK.

I had Netgear routers before I bought a RT-N66U about 3 years ago. I have since upgraded to the RT-AC68P.

I found that Netgear had plenty of bugs, but the firmware support was horrible. They would orphan their last hardware models when they released new ones, so if bugs weren't fixed while the hardware was current, you were out of luck.

I also hated the way the Netgear UI was laid out and functioned. Doing something simple like adding MAC addresses to an ACL for wifi or adding DHCP reservations took a long time because the router would have to restart the stack after each change.

Range of the Asus routers and compatibility with devices has always been much better for me than Netgear. I have a 5 year old Blu-Ray player with built in 802.11n that I could never get an IP address with Netgear DHCP. I had to configure a static IP or it would not connect. No such issues with Asus.
