Stay away from this address like the Plague

According to online sources the United States is #3 on the list of Cyberattack Origin for year 2025. I would strongly suggest adding them to the blocked countries list, @Jack-Sparr0w. Huge security hole in your firewall. The guy in McDonald's is probably watching you already.
This American approves this. ^^

Should I get pfSense or OpenWrt.. For users seeking to upgrade existing hardware, popular open-source firmware like OpenWrt and pfSense are frequently recommended, with OpenWrt having a comprehensive database of supported devices. Unlike closed-source alternatives, OpenWrt's transparency allows users to audit its code, reducing the risk of hidden vulnerabilities or backdoors. This open nature also enables faster security updates and patches, ensuring devices remain secure long after manufacturers have discontinued support. OpenWrt typically uses more recent kernel versions and updated networking daemons like dnsmasq, which enhances security by reducing exposure to known vulnerabilities present in older, forked software.

In contrast, while AsusWRT-Merlin is known for its prompt security updates and clear changelogs, it is still proprietary software, meaning its code is not publicly auditable, potentially hiding security flaws until a breach occurs. Although Asus has a strong track record of supporting its devices, the closed nature of its firmware limits independent verification of its security posture.

Jack... focus on the OCD. Removing Unbound and Skynet as first step may help. Some things don't need fixing and so much attention.

Then you should uninstall Unbound and Entware from your router together with any other addons that use Entware. Entware is maintained by three Russian developers. Maybe that's why your previous router stopped working properly and you had to buy another one?

But Merlin version is maintained by https://diversion.ch/ which is a Switzerland ISO code?

This is a mirror, it serves exactly the same content as upstream. You have to trust the upstream to trust the mirror, if there is anything malicious in the upstream then it is also on all the mirrors.

If you want to be 100% sure there is nothing malicious in Entware then you will have to inspect all the Makefiles manually then build everything yourself.

Also almost anyone can buy domain under any TLD, you should not judge the safety of the domain based on that.
