Subpar speed on RT-AC68U

lsr

New Around Here
So I switched to a nice provider (200Mbps synchronous up/down) and bought the AC68U. Getting about 230Mbps when wired but only 130 on 5GHz (laptop and iPad) and 80 on 2.4GHz. Quick setup the router with defaults. Haven't rebooted yet, firmware is 3.0.0.4.374_379. Devices are all in the same room.

Any hints on improving performance? Should I upgrade firmware, change the channel bandwidth, play with other options or maybe seek wireless driver update on the laptop? (Windows 7 64-bit). Apologies if similar question is answered in another thread.

Thank you

You don't have wireless ac adapters?

Yes, you need to do all of the above.

First; upgrade to firmware 583

After upgrading - reset to defaults via the web gui. Then, manually enter all your settings again. Finally, 'forget' the network ssid in all your client devices and re-associate them again (this step is important).

With the above taken care of, your router is now at a known, stable point we can move forward from.

Second; upgrade your WiFi card to AC class if you can.

Third, upgrade the WiFi drivers to the latest offered.

Fourth, set your options as shown in the link below (leave all others at defaults).

With the above steps taken in the proper order, you will have increased your network performance to 2014 levels. :)
