New Around Here
Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and to home networking. I plan on setting up a small home network. I have a netgear 3700 wireless router. I know I will have the need to plug in more devices than there are ports on the netgear. Should I plug the switch directly into the netgear? I plan on getting an unmanaged switch. Should I use the switch exclusively for the wired items, or can I still plug in to the other ports on the netgear? Sorry if this is very basic.

You can plug the unmanaged switch into a free port on the wndr3700 and attach more wired devices to the switch.

most unmanaged switches are either 5 port or 8 port models shouldn't cost more than 60 for a decent one with a lifetime warranty, HP procurve 1400, Netgear GS105 ect.
