Transmission hangs in memory. ASuswrt Merlin

So I installed transmission using optware (entware isn't compatible with ARM hardware) using this guide: http://insinuations.wordpress.com/2013/06/21/guide-install-transmission/

Problem is, it will only run for 10 or so minutes before hanging in memory... the process will keep running but no download and the webgui is inaccessible.

When I tried to do ipkg update i got: Segmentation fault.

I'm at a loss as to what exactly to do next...

I'm on asuswrt merlin latest version on RT AC56u

Your usb drive is formatted as ntfs?

The problem was that the settings file, which i did not write, was telling transmission to use 256mb of ram. problem was resolved.
