Tim,

Have you tested this access point for N. It seems very popular online and emulator http://www.trendnet.com/emulators/TEW-637AP/192.168.0.3/adm/status.html

I was planning on shutting down the DIR-655 wireless N and use this TEW-637AP to boost the N stronger in the house. I'll try both DIR-655 and TEW-637AP to see which one perform better?

Any thoughts on this model.

According to FCC documentation, the TEW-637AP contains a Ralink 2T3R chipset (RT2820L/RT2880F). As this is the same configuration as the Belkin N Wireless Router (F5D8233-4), wireless performance should be similar. That particular Belkin is one of the highest-performing devices in the Open Air Wireless Charts, but many devices (including the DIR-655) have only been benchmarked using the previous test.

You may be put off by the 637AP's lack of gigabit connectivity or external antenna support.

Don't need Gig ports on the Access point and it's not really a good idea to connect to the access point and use it as switch. I found in testing it's better for the access point to be connected directly to the main switch along with other nodes. I read about this access point the the features looked promising. I don't see the point to buy another DIR-655 just use it as access point. Though the theory of 300mbps (120mbps) on 100mbps line could only get 80mbps if I read the Belkin reviews on SNB. That won't cut it if that's the case. Then I could see the justification to get 1000mbps port on 300Mbps Access Point N instead.

I purchased a TEW-637AP a week or two ago while newegg.com was still selling them for $25 shipped. My intention is to eventually donate it to a local non-profit I volunteer at. They want to add some very simple wireless capability to their internal LAN to avoid running cable to support a computer in a veterinary surgery area. The TEW-637AP seemed like it would suffice and, mostly, the price was right at the time.

Unfortunately I don't have the tools or the experience to provide much in the way of performance feedback about the AP. All I can provide is anecdotal feedback that it seems to work fine around my house support a single wireless link between my (ancient) D-Link DI-604 router and my Core 2 based MacBook.

But if you had some specific (enough) question, I'd be happy to try to answer it. (If I could.)

To echo the previous poster's comments, the 637AP displays as a Ralink Wireless Access Point model RT2561 by the "Network Magic" app trial which I happen to have installed on my desktop at the moment. TrendNet apparently doesn't go to great lengths to "own" something when they rebrand it. ;-)
