The UBNT Edgerouter's are still pretty good...

uTik Routerboards are going to go far, and there are x86 solutions that are more than good enough.

BHR's - hmmm... run up the numbers for a single session, but under load - they tend to fold over - it's complicated, and this is why folks are looking beyond the BHR range...

Some do better than others - Marvell is pretty good, as is QC-Atheros these days - the Broadcom hacks are starting to show up now that we have more traffic on them.
 
Dave, that review is very old and based on old firmware.
I've been using the ERL-Lite3 to debug a new HTTP based router test technique (basically the one in Ars Technica's Router Rumble) and it's pretty fast when transferring medium to large files. Performance is reduced with small (<10KB) files.

Once I get the test method debugged, I'll do another review.
