USB 3.0 Mode on ASUS RT-AC88U

Fadel

New Around Here
Hello,
In the “Administration” settings, “System” tab, I can change the USB mode between 2.0 and 3.0.
My main concern is with the performance of the 2.4 Ghz wireless network, but the description of this setting is pretty confusing, to me at least:

“Enabling this feature ensures the best wireless performance on the 2.4 GHz band. Disabling this feature increases USB 3.0 port's transmission speed and may affect the 2.4 GHz wireless range.”

What does “disabling” actually mean in this situation? I have the latest firmware installed.

That option used to say "Reducing USB 3.0 interference" but they obviously never bothered changing the balloon help text accordingly. And the setting was either Enable or Disable. Even then the original text ought to have said "Reduce USB 3.0 interference".

What it's trying to say is setting USB Mode to 2.0 reduces possible interference with 2.4GHz WiFi devices but also reduces the USB speed (to USB 2 standards). Setting USB Mode to 3.0 allows an attached USB 3 device to operate at its full speed, but with the possibility that it might interfere with 2.4GHz WiFi devices.

Thank you for clarifying this. I don’t know why they never bother making things clearer as they change their settings.
