Unable to Install Asus Download Master in USB Application - Asus Rt-Ax92U

Hello, I upgraded my router ( from RT AC-3100 which was on merlin FW ) to RT-AX92U -( on stock asus Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.388_22525) , I am trying to install Download Master, but I get error The remote server is not responding. Any Idea what do i need to do ?
I am using the same disk from earlier that was used on RT AC3100. its formatted in ext4. Now this disk is connected to RT Ax92U, i am able to access the files , but download master doesn't work.

Have you removed all traces of the previous Download Master installation from the USB drive? Probably best to format the disk afresh before attempting the install if you haven't already tried that.

yes i have removed the Download2 folder., i uninstalled the Download master ( while it was on rt-ac3100) . Fresh format is the last way out. Maybe i try to install it on fresh pendrive before i install it on formatted HDD

You probably will have to reformat the USB storage device to remove any vestiges of Download Master (and other programs) that were installed by the old RT-AC3100 router. ETA: Or as you later posted, try a different/new USB storage device.

Will try, but whole issue is " remote server is not responding "
Put in a fresh 64GB Pendrive, formatted from router, same error

How was the fresh pend drive formatted? EXT4 again or something else like NTFS or FAT32?
The "remote server is not responding" seems to be a common error over the years with Download Master. Various suggestions in the following past discussions may or may not work.

Some have moved to using Asus-Merlin then installing Entware then installing Transmission as a way to deal with the variety of issues people experience with Download Master.

The PD was formatted first on PC - NTFS and again formatted from Router - NTFS. will check the links provided by you. for now i have gone back to rt Ac 3100 , as the 92U was giving me issues with wifi as well, (poor coverage)

New issue with the router : unable to update the firmware, currently it is on 3.0.0.4.388_22525, it will not take any firmware. It will say complete and then nothing happens. It's same. 22525. Totally flummoxed.

Try from a different computer using a different web browser.

trying everything as mentioned in this thread - https://www.snbforums.com/threads/l...orking-to-update-firmware-asus-rt-ax55.82735/
My router will not even go into rescue mode. The Power light will blink slowly, but the asus restoration tool will try to upload the FW and after 30 seconds it tells me router is not in rescue mode. i believe my router is cooked, still functional, but wont update or anything., i guess i will use it as a node in my Mesh system

@chetansha, the stock Asus 3.0.0.4.388_22525 for the RT-AX92U is out of date (2023/02/16). If you had enabled any of the AiCloud features its possible your router was infected by malware. There is big discussion on that particular issue with AiCloud and possible ways to recover the router here:

If you haven't done so already, try performing a hard factory reset for your router model.
1. Turn the router off.
2. Press and hold the WPS button and turn the router on.
3. Power light is on (keep holding the WPS button).
4. Release the WPS button after the power light is off.
5. Reboot your router by manually pressing the power button.
Disconnect all devices and USB drives from the router before performing the hard factory reset. After the reset connect one single computer to the router's LAN port by Ethernet and try to access the router's GUI to run the QiS (Quick Internet Setup). If you can access the QiS screen, then complete a manual configuration of the router. Do not import a saved router.cfg file. Then try updating the firmware to the latest version.

@bennor Hi, thanks for your suggestions, i got this router from market place, hence no idea about if AiCloud was enabled earlier.

Yes, i used this Method 2 to reset my router, but it will not take any firmware, i have tried 388_23630, 388_23695,388_23712, i also tried to install Gnutro FW, same problem. It will show process complete but it will not update. After process is over, the lights do not change, it immediately goes to the login page.

I used the reset method to try to get into restoration mode ( reset button pushed in + plugging in power wire), the white power light will blink slowly, but router wont get in rescue mode.

it will not SSH nor telnet either. Connecting To 192.168.50.1...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed / ssh: connect to host 192.168.50.1 port 22: Connection refused

Connecting To 192.168.50.1...Could not open connection to the host
Is that where you are going wrong? In recovery mode the router is 192.168.1.1 and your laptop/pc should be 192.168.1.10.

Has this router worked at all since obtaining it from "market place"? If not maybe the router is damaged or defective.

If you haven't done so already, see the following Asus Support document with instructions on how to use the rescue mode:
The directions include changing the network settings on the local computer being used to run the Asus rescue software to the following.
Code:
IP address: 192.168.1.10
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
There are further specific steps that need to be done to get the router into proper rescue mode.

Router works as stand alone router and also as a node in Mesh.
Yes I have replicated the steps , local pc ip on 192.168.1.10 and subnet on 255.255.255.0
Followed the rescue mode ( press the reset button and plug in the router) the white power line blinks slowly as it should. I run the rescue tool, it shows trying to connect, and after 30 seconds it will put out a message router NOT IN RESCUE mode.

I've found the Restoration tool to be unreliable and often times out. Instead I would point a browser and http://192.168.1.1 and use that recovery interface.

Tip: Setup your PC with its 192.168.1.10 IP address and then from a Windows Command Prompt run a continuous ping (ping -t 192.168.1.1) to the router's recovery IP (192.168.1.1). In normal use the TTL will be 64. When the TTL changes to 100 you should be in rescue mode.

N.B. This is how it works for other Asus routers but I have no personal experience with the RT-AX92U specifically.

Will try the browser method, just to reconfirm, the pc ip should be on 192.168.1.10, subnet 255.255.255.0, hit the reset method start the rescue process thru browser instead of app
