USB Wifi 7 adapter - USB-BE92 Nano

I bought this BE92 nano adapter for my Lenovo laptop running Win11 24H2 latest update but it only recognized as AX 802.11ax WiFi6 protocol and the speed was horrible slow (3xxMbps down and upload)

Router is Asus BE92u

It's a visual issue with WIndows. Look at the router's Wireless Log, the PHY will report as "be".

but the speed is not acceptable.... have to wait for the Windows or Realtek driver update. I got the other Comfast Wifi7 RTL8912 usb adapter and the result was the same.

Are you in the same room? 6 GHz attenuation is higher than 5 GHz.

I had no issue breaking the gigabit barrier with mine.

Hm, I wonder if a Windows update broke it, because now I am also limited to only around 400 Mbps when I tested it, despite a 2400 Mbps link. Looks like the dongle is only running at USB 2.0/480 Mbps instead of USB 3.0/5 Gbps. It used to run at full speed when I first received it.

EDIT: Yep, the dongle only operates at USB 2.0 speed now for some reason.

It's operating at HighSpeed instead of SuperSpeed, bottlenecking it.

I wonder what Realtek is doing, they were supposed to have a new driver out last November, instead we are still stuck with last July's driver, still missing MLO support that was expected to appear in an updated driver.

Hm, I wonder if a Windows update broke it, because now I am also limited to only around 400 Mbps when I tested it, despite a 2400 Mbps link. Looks like the dongle is only running at USB 2.0/480 Mbps instead of USB 3.0/5 Gbps. It used to run at full speed when I first received it.

I think the adapter is still not ready yet. Thats why it is only available at US and Taiwan only. So as tplink"s BE usb adapter still available soon only. We have to wait for Windows and Realtek update.

Might be. I got mine from Asus before it launched, at the time I was told that a proper release driver was espected to launch before the end of 2024, close to the launch date of November. Realtek still doesn't have anything newer on their own website.

I hope it's really just needing a driver update, because I just noticed something worrying: the box itself says "USB 2.0"... Which would be grossly misleading, as WIfi 7 running at 480 Mbps is basically giving you 802.11n speeds. I'm skeptical that a driver update would fix that, since the driver would get loaded after the USB handshaking is done.

I'll have to ask them to clarify when they get back in the office on Monday. I'm starting to wonder now if maybe my original test from last year ended up going through my onboard wifi rather than the dongle. I remember it was still slower than my onboard Intel AX211, which was why I put it back in its box after I completed the tests I needed it for, but it was definitely not running at only 400 Mbps.

Many thanks. I reported to Asus yesterday and they told me to get repair as it was hardware failure...

Strange is that tonight I tested again with my Comfast Realtek RTL8912 Wifi7 adaptor (which use the same BE92 Nano clipset) and the result is download 9xx mbps and upload beyond 1200mbps. Asus BE92 nano remain download and upload both 4xx mbps. If the interface it use is really USB2.0 that is suck! Hope the issue is only driver or Windows issue and can be fixed later.

I don't use currently any USB Wi-Fi adapters, but have some around used previously here and there. All my PCs are HP with front/rear USB ports on different controllers. What I have noticed multiple times is USB 3.0 Wi-Fi adapter speed and stability is largely impacted by other USB devices connected to the same controller. Perhaps something worth investigating in your case.

No other USB devices are connected, and also the Comfast Wifi7 USB adaptor uses the same chipset as B92 Nano can reached up DL/UP speed at giga.

Yes its suck ! Even US$30 Comfast adaptor is better than BE92 Nano and also USB3.0 interface. They use same Realtek chipset do not understand why Asus downgrade to USB2.0 spec.

I'm planning to skip the entire Wi-Fi 7 generation just because of the enormous false advertising around it. Wi-Fi 6 is more stable and fast enough for whatever needs to be wirelessly connected. For higher speeds and even better reliability - wires.

I always need to download 4k video and wifi7@320mhz can reach my expectations. It can reach to 3xxx mbps download speed on my Samsung S25U if I sit near the router, which wifi6E cannot get that speed.
