Using a WRVS4400N as a Firewall?

New Around Here
Preface, when it comes to networking, in the grand scheme of things, I know next to nothing; when it comes to network security I know ABSOLUTELY nothing.

I just changed routers from a Linksys WRVS4400N (Version 1) to a WNDR4000 from NetGear.

The wireless throughput change is astronomical; (48mbits to 200mbits per sec). However, I do miss some of the firewall/security features of the WRVS4400N.
  1. Would it be possible to disable the DHCP and wireless antennas and use the WRVS4400N as strictly firewall?
  2. Is it even worthwhile to do so from a security standpoint?
  3. Would I see a decrease in either WAN or LAN throughput?
  4. Anything else I should know?
