New Around Here
hi guys i have a dgn3500 router (new yesterday) and a dell studio 1537, the NIC in this is broadcom netlink BCM5784M.

my issue is as follows:
I can't get this to connect at 1gb, when i select auto in the speed/duplex section it only has 10, 100 and auto options available.

auto: connects at 100 if you reboot the router with the cables in - if you disconnect and reconnect the lan cable from the system it tries to connect at 1gb but just constantly disconnects and reconnects every second.

100 fd: connects at 100

So in summary i'm cinfused - i've tried all the available drivers, the one that windows 7 installs itself, the one from dell - and the latest one from broadcom, none have a 1gb option in the speed & duplex.

any help appreciated

thanks

matt

It's pretty common for Gigabit NICs to have an "auto" and no "force 1000" setting.

Are you sure that the cable you're using is good and has all four pair connected?

Otherwise, sounds like you have an incompatible NIC and switch. Not much you can do except try another NIC.

hi thanks for the response, i've ran cable through tester and all is sound - i hope its not incompatible, as don't think its possible to change the one in my laptop

Will keep this updated as i make more discoveries.
