Like described, all devices are connected directly to the Router ports, no switch between nas & router.

Just because you don't use a switch doesn't mean that other people aren't. As I said, the router has no way of knowing that, so it can't display the information it has no way of accessing.

Gee, do you need to monitor the link rate of a fixed Ethernet cable on a daily basis or something?

It's annoying that I can't use a function from my phone or tablet. It used to be listed under system info. Then came the brilliant icon-based update! It was a step backward! The colors are misleading! There are daily complaints about it on the internet!!!!!

There’s no mouse on tablets and mobile phones! It’s frustrating that I can’t measure speeds. I use the router interface on a tablet and mobile phone. Whoever came up with this didn’t think it through! It’s a major flaw!!

Connected via ethernet (not a dumb question)...

There's a lot of USB-C adapters these days that one can connect to a phone and/or tablet, and there, the host OS might not show the connected rate.

I've got an iPad Pro that has Thunderbolt - and yes, I can connect it to a dock with 2.5Gbit ethernet - and it's doesn't indicate the connected speed...

Not really a router issue perhaps, more of a OS item on the tablet/phone...

ethtool on your router isn't going to tell you the link rate of port #5 on the 16 ports Netgear switch that's downtream fromn your router.

The webui already reports the link rate of all of its OWN Ethernet ports. The discussion is about its inability of providing that info for random clients connected to random network switch.

The issue is that in previous firmware versions, you could check the speed of the router's LAN ports on any device, and this feature was removed. Feature reduction! And that's a fact.
