Wireless performance (latency) of R7000 vs UAP-AC-Lite/LR?

TL;DR: Which of the two in the title has better wireless performance especially in terms of latency?
----
Hello all, I have recently moved from a condo to a house (two stories + unfinished basement, around 2600 sqft). I used my R7000 as the router and sole AP in my condo and it was perfect.

My house is fully wired with Ethernet going into almost every room. However the network "closet" - where all wiring came from - is in the basement. The basement ceiling have some sort of insulation material which seems to kill Wifi signal. The modem and router have to stay in the basement since that's how networking was installed (wires and all Ethernet cable "source" goes there; if I'm wrong about this point please correct me).

I still have my R7000. After some research I believe I have 2 main options:

1. Add AP's upstairs. I'm looking at maybe buying 2 UAP-AC-Lite or 1 UAP-AC-LR since I have wired backdrop.
2. Buy a ERLITE-3 as my router, and move the R7000 upstairs to use it in AP mode. Hopefully it can cover two floors well enough; I'll go home today and do some testing.

So I guess my choice comes down to the wireless capabilities between R7000 and the Unifi AP's. I play video games so latency is important to me; some of the devices such as a Nintendo Switch or phones for example does not have ethernet port to allow for a more stabled wired connection. Although higher throughput is nice too so I can consider leaving my Roku wireless.

As I understand routing performance of ERLITE-3 and R7000 is about on par? I see ERLITE-3 allows for more management and tuning, but I am likely not savvy enough to factor that in, and R7000 served me well enough as a router so far.

P.S. Basement is unfinished and I don't need wifi down there for now. If I do in the future i'll just add another AP.

If you use the R7000 in your network, don't use it as a wireless router, use it as a router only (wifi off). Let the Unifi stuff handle the wireless, with the channel TX configured optimally you should get decent throughput. If you decide to pick up a router, check out the Unifi USG. A little simpler to configure than the Edgemax products. I don't use the USG, but use the AC Pro's for wireless at home with a Cloud Key. Can't comment on wireless, gaming, as we use Ethernet, with gaming consoles. If you get more than one UAP, consider picking up a cloud key, to manage your AP's.
