New Around Here
Hi,

I have two XT8s in a mesh, wifi backhaul. Today after I hard reset them and re set them up, I noticed a total of four hidden ssids, all on channel 104, listed as 160mhz. I assume these to be backhaul, but seem to remember only having 2 total prior.

Based on the MACs, it looks like each device has two hidden ssid's each(the MAC only differ in last octect).

Is this normal, or can anyone explain in layman terms why it shows this way on wifi scanners?

Also, come to think of it, I did this reset after swapping in a modem with a 2.5gb link, could this have caused it?

This is an issue I see with the newer beta firmwares. I had to either restore from a backup or ssh and do a bunch of nvram set judo to get them to go away.

Thanks. Tried going back to latest stable and behavior was even weirder...router kept 2 hidden ssid, while node went back to 1. This of course was clearing nvram resetting a million times every way I could research...via ssh, ui, reset button, and wps button tricks.

The MAC being used isn't even listed on the UI anywhere as attached to a radio.

Playing in busybox I found the interface name to be something like wl2.5 and the ssid a long hex looking number.

One interesting thing is that that same hex ssid is actually broadcast as public when you reset a node and it's searching. So perhaps something to do with node discovery? Seems wasteful to keep it on all the time blasting away.

Do you happen to remember what you did in nvram? Did you just set the interface enable to 0?

Thanks much

I think I had to nvram set wl2.5_bss_enabled=0 and delete the wl2.5 from br0_ifnames and lan_ifname, then nvram commit then reboot

This is what is currently on my AP mode "node". I'm running as a wired standalone AP mode, so your backhaul might be on this ssid? Not sure the behavior there.

Firmware version?

9.0.0.4.386.41994

As for the nvram tricks...I could clear them, but on reboot, it just resets them up so no real effect there. I'm guessing it's an issue with the beta firmware as pointed.
My hidden SSID did not come back after a reboot.
